Jiang Jun Xue Ping Gui Xi Zheng 1

  1. What's with the coat hanger mustache?

  2. It's a sad state of affairs when you have to comment on your own posting. All I can guess is that people don't know what to say, or they don't like the work and so would rather say nothing. Either way it is a shame we have to be so careful about what we say and not speak without fear of being misunderstood.

  3. It's not an issue Simon. Our job is to lay down good postings. And build an interesting web site. Getting responses via comments is post, posting. Some of the best sites don't even have comments turned on. Others have very few comments.
Receiving a comment is only a bonus.
I have received more comments online blogging than I ever have in a gallery context with a gallery full of people.
But your right some people are intimidated and don't know what to say. Comments do give you an indication of performance but are not the only measure. When I have time I seek out other blogs and comment. Normally it draws another few visitors and maybe a link.
It is a dynamic medium, but like any project it has to be worked.
I feel that this medium is only in it's infancy and has great potential, but your battling against millions of other bloggers for attention. So regular, diverse and interesting posts are an advantage. There is a certain amount of accommodation and diplomacy needed to run and comment on a blog. Bad press will either annoy or attract people. But I don't think accommodation should cause one to compromise ones own essential position by selling out.
I believe integrity and quality should be our maxim, and diversity and relevance our goal.

  4. What does Xue Ping Gui - conquer the west mean?
The sound/music towards the end sounds a bit like siren, or missile sounds from the Second World War.
Even certain fireworks have that sound. The music/sound moves this footage into another realm. Mind you the mustache is very curious - what does it mean?

  5. I'm trying to find the exact meaning of Xue ping gui from one of my ex students. It is taken from the subtitles of Xiangtan the doco Where the pink faced woman is being interviewed and the translation as I understand it is 'conquer the west', but it never seems to be quite that simple when translating Chinese.
